Musicians’ Initiative (MI), formerly known as TYMFO, is a Singaporean orchestra which
performs in classical concerts and operas. MI has a focus on nurturing local, aspiring professional musicians by providing opportunities in leading, performing and mentoring. In addition, MI aims to inspire and develop audiences through innovation and education, and spread the gift of music to all segments of the community.

Led by Music Director Alvin Arumugam, together with Associate Conductors Ignatius Wang and Edward Tan, MI has put up stellar performances with much acclaim from reviews. In a Straits Times article, Chang Tou Liang described the Orchestra’s performance of Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto as a “life-affirming outing” that “bodes well for a young orchestra with much to offer.” MI has performed large scale works, namely the local premiere of Toru Takemitsu’s “From Me Flows What You Call Time”. Additionally, MI has even collaborated with several musical groups. In July 2019, MI collaborated with The Opera People to stage the wildly successful Opera by Alexander Zemlinsky: Der Zwerg.

Kanon Matsuda was born in the city of Takamatsu, Japan. She started her training at 4

recipient of the Golden Nutcracker in the 7th International Television Competition for
Young Musicians “The Nutcracker” in Moscow. In January 2007, she appeared before the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexey II at the children's Christmas party which was organized in the patriarchal residence in the Danilov Monastery.

In April 2009, Kanon received the first prize and gold medal at the AADGT International
Young Musicians Competition “Passion of Music” in New York. In November of 2010,
she was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Competition "Classic-2010" in
Aktobe. In 2011, Kanon Matsuda won the Scriabin Scholarship "Path to Scriabin."
