Organized by National University of Singapore’s King Edward VII Hall (NUS KEVII), the 20th XQRJ – The Dream Composition (第二十届心情溶剂之梦想新创作）is the Grand Final event of the regional songwriting competition. Building on 19 years of success, this songwriting competition remains a professional and preferred platform for youths, aged 15-25, to showcase their song writing talents. It is also an opportunity to bring the community together through appreciation of music. This 20th year marks another milestone with the inclusion of an English category, bold and new direction for the songwriting competition.The Grand Final will feature 10 performances by our Top 5 finalists from both the English and Chinese categories. These 10 original compositions presented have emerged from the preliminary round of judging by judges from OCEAN Butterflies. The finalists will take on the stage to present their original compositions to a panel of professional judges and the audiences in striving to win their hearts and votes for the grand prize.Here to inspire our 10 aspiring song writers is Guest Performer, Singaporean actress and singer-songwriter, Boon Hui Lu (文慧如). 4 Charismatic Champs in Concert brings together four of Singapore's most well-known entertainers - Mark Lee 李国煌, Henry Thia 辉哥, Marcus Chin 陈建彬 and Wang Lei 王雷. From acting and singing to hosting and directing, each has enjoyed an illustrious career throughout the decades, scoring major screen appearances and holding mega concerts. Mark Lee, comedian-actor-television host and film director, gained recognition when he won Best Comedy Performer in 1998 for his works in the long running comedy variety programme Comedy Night.Although Lee was mostly known for playing comedic roles early in his career, he has also diversified into hosting and hosted various kinds of programmes, mainly infotainment, travelogue and DIY programmes. Henry Thia, actor-comedian, played many roles on television and on big screen, tickling his audience with his great sense of humour. Some of his major screen appearances include The Ghosts Must Be Crazy, I Not Stupid Too, Money No Enough, and Liang Po Po the Movie. Marcus Chin, veteran actor-singer-host, is also a script writer in the early days of his career. Marcus is also known for his comedic roles in the long-running Comedy Night and has starred in various shows alongside Mark Lee, Henry Thia and Jack Neo. Besides singing and acting, he is also a radio DJ on Singapore's radio station Love 972. Wang Lei, singer-host-actor, is a veteran entertainer and much sought-after Getai host, Wang has acted in numerous movies and local television dramas. Get ready for Circus! Science Under The Big Top as it comes to the Science Centre Singapore from 28 October 2017 to 18 March 2018.The exhibition highlights how science has always had an important role in the circus and how circus relies upon a balance of artistry and science to meet new challenges and fulfil audience expectations. Just as science can satisfy our need to understand, the circus meets our need to be amazed, thrilled and even perplexed.Visitors will learn the science behind the circus by performing, examining and watching the art. They will also be invited to hold various circus acts up to scrutiny, investigating illusion versus reality, pseudo-science versus science. Visitors will ''live the science'' through the magic of the circus.The exhibition will showcase a collection of exhibits that visitors can try on. Below are some of them: Elastic Acrobatics - visitors will gain a better understanding of what it feels like by performing their own tricks while hanging in mid-air with a safety harness strapped around them; The High Wire - visitors will strap themselves into a harness and see if they can make it across a nine-foot-high cable; Balance Bar - visitors are challenged to maintain their balance, not allowing their feet to strike the ground; Contortionist - visitors can explore the art of getting into small spaces; Clown Alley - visitors will see some tools of the trade and will be able to try them out in the costume and role play area. any many more!Magic shows and activities will also form part of this interactive and educational extravaganza!
